Frequently Asked Questions

What is Influenza (flu)?

Influenza is a contagious respiratory disease caused by viruses. The flu virus attacks the body by spreading through the upper and/or lower respiratory tract.

How is flu different than common cold?

Both the common cold and flu are contagious viral infections that affect the respiratory tract. Although the symptoms might be similar, flu is much worse. A cold may make you irritable and uneasy but flu can make suffer for weeks before you start to recover.

When should you get the flu vaccination?

You can be vaccinated anytime during the flu season that is between September and March. Although, the best time to get vaccinated is early September. The course for flu jab is just one dose however; kids below nine years of age receiving the flu jab for the first time will need a second booster within four weeks of first dose. The PCG Tooting Flu Vaccination Service protects residents from common strains of the flu as well as provide immunity that lasts up to a year.
